Here's another January newsletter for members, as we have some exciting 'breaking news' that I feel should go out now and not wait for February.

Congratulations ...

... to everyone nominated for 2007 Reps Afdis Awards based on nominations received from the various committees within the society, theatre critics, Reps members and from the judges themselves. The actual Afdis Awards night will be Saturday March 1, when awards will be handed out to winners.

Please diarise this event, which will be a black tie/evening wear affair and is open to all members (although you must, if you would like to attend, contact the office to reserve tickets as this could be a full house show).

Back in the light

After more than a month of being in the dark, the Reps complex received mains power again on January 9 ... to the great relief of everyone. Having no mains power was a major blow, not in the least because of additional and unplanned expenses incurred in generating power to run the panto in December and the farce in January. However, we were delighted to have been able to make use of the excellent generator that belongs to Ralph and Rose Stead, who gave it to us at an extremely reasonable cost.

A great deal of lobbying went on behind the scenes to get the authorities to do their bit and resolve the problem causing the whole of Belgravia Shopping Centre (and some surrounding suburbs) to go without mains power from lunchtime on December 7 - and particular mention must be made of our great friend, Nick Mandeya of Adrienne's Restaurant for his role in this regard, as well as Exco member Stan Higgins!

I would also like to thank Mike Blackburn for all his hard work and dedication throughout this period, without which we could not have coped.

Now that the power is back we are (like so many others) experiencing water problems and telephone problems ... so please bear with us! Please note that the members' bar has power again (although there has been a glitch with one of the phases) so to those people who stayed away because of 'a less bright bar' we say: come back! The Spotlight is also experiencing telephone hassles, so if you cannot get through between 9am and 4pm Tuesday to Friday and between 9am and 12 noon on Saturday and Sunday, this is probably why.

Now booking at The Spotlight

Ticket sales have opened for Good Vibrations, the Beach Boys musical that will run from February 7 to 16. Starring a bright and talented young cast, this will have a preview night on Wednesday February 6 and its run includes three matinee performances - Sat Feb 9, Sun Feb 10 and Sat Feb 16, in addition to 7pm performances each night between Feb 7 and 16 (except, of course, Sunday night and Monday night). Special advance booking prices apply and are available until Feb 7 - $10 million per ticket; $5 million per ticket for the back three rows and $2 million per ticket for senior citizens.

Also booking is Celebrity Subscription Concerts' February 2 concert featuring Spanish flautist Cristina Granera and Japanese pianist Yuki Matsushima.

Soon to open will be ticket sales for the next Reps production - Rock This Country (provisional title), which is a country rock music show that will open early in March. More about that next month.

Until next time, keep well.

Regards

Tim Garrard, Chairman
