Best wishes to you all for 2006 from the Executive Committee and staff of Reps. We hope your festive season was pleasant and enjoyable. This is the first of our new e-newsletters, being sent to all members to keep them informed and fully updated on activities and events to do with Reps. For those people without e-mail facilities we shall print out copies and have them available for collection from the Reps office, from the foyer and in the bar.

In addition, if you know of someone without e-mail and you are able to do so, could you please print out a copy and hand to them? Our Marketing and Publicity Committee Chairman, Stan Higgins, will also have copies available at his offices in Highlands. Call him or Evey on 443289-91 to check if one is ready each month for collection. They should be available each month by about the 20th.

Costs of postage are too high to have them sent out by mail - and, in any case, two-thirds will probably go astray. So we hope this newsletter is found useful and that members make a point of collecting if they do not get it by e-mail. The e-mailed newsletter will always be sent out text-only to cater for all the people who cannot receive html or other mailings.

Subs - pay up, please!

Many people have paid their subs on time and a number have not! We really like having you on board as a member, so If you are in the latter category please could you renew as soon as possible, please?

Those late subscribers who pay up on or before Friday January 20 will not have to go through the process of re-joining, but anyone not renewed by then will have to re-apply and pay a joining fee so save yourselves this hassle and pay up right away. Thanks to all the folk who paid their renewals on time (January 14 was the date).

And don't forget to keep telling your friends and colleagues about Reps membership - we enjoyed a wonderful year in 2005, reaching up to 700 members. We would like to go even further this year and we can do so if each of you finds at least one other person to become a member during 2006.

75th - celebrate and win!

As many of you already know, 2006 sees the 75th anniversary of the Society, an occasion for us to celebrate and once again take time to enjoy the magic of the world of theatre and theatrical entertainment. On our calendar this year is a 75th anniversary production, The Music Man, which focuses on the wonderful music of Andrew Lloyd-Webber and is another production from our legendary Adrian Stanley.

There will be other activities, too, so keep watching for the newsletter each month or for regular updates from the Reps office. Big news this month is that you could win $10 million - and all you have to do is design us a winning logo for the 75th year. We would like to make use of a 75th anniversary logo right through this year and we want something eye-catching and pleasant. Design us something right away and e-mail it to the Reps office (reps[at]zol.co.zw) for consideration by our panel of judges. The deadline to have it with us is Tuesday January 31.

In terms of design, anything goes ... but we would prefer something that fits in with a theme of black, white and/or silver. Have a go and see if you will be the winner of the big bucks. This competition is open ONLY to Reps members. As is usual practice, when the design has been selected and the prize paid out, the logo will become the intellectual property of Reps Theatre and there will be no royalty rights applicable to the designer ... so you can't give it to someone else later on!

Something very important for the anniversary, so please take note: if you have any photos from shows of yesteryear or from anything to do with Reps over the past 75 years or so, please could we borrow them for the purpose of taking some trips down memory lane - we will look after them and return them to you. Pass them on to Lynn Buckingham in the Reps office. Even things like programmes and other memorabilia will be helpful.

2006 Calendar - diarise now!

Here's a provisional calendar for Reps shows this year - diarise now so you don't lose out on this great entertainment and all the fun of live theatre. There's a huge amount of planning going into this year and we hope for a range of shows that will please a variety of tastes. If there any budding actors, actresses, backstage workers, musicians etc then look out for audition times for these shows:

(The newsletter will give updates and confirmations during the year)

Do U Wanna Rock? Of course you do ...

Chris Charnley is co-ordinating this spectacular start to Reps' 2006 shows - a musical feast around the theme of rock with some great talent including some well-known faces and some brand new ones. Rehearsals are about to start after two successful auditions, and the show will run for only five performances - Tuesday March 21 to Saturday March 25. The Wednesday show (March 22) will be especially for Reps members and we are planning a social in the bar afterwards ... so members should try to book for that night. This show will be our special thanks to Adrian Stanley and is a benefit for this grand old man of Zimbabwean theatre, who has done so much for us and theatrical entertainment in this country. Get on your dancing shoes and book at The Spotlight very soon. If you can volunteer to sell tickets to friends and colleagues and groups you know, then please contact the Reps office, this simply has to be a sold-out series and the way to do it is to wave tickets in front of people and sell to them then and there.

Repteens

Chris Charnley has also been busy getting Repteens off the ground for this year. The group meets each Friday night during school terms and their AGM is this Friday, January 20 (6.15pm in the Repteens Room), with Repteens nights starting the following Friday, January 27 (6 - 8pm). Get your youngsters involved and make Repteens even bigger and better than ever.

Social events

Kathy Keen is our queen of the entertainment scene in the Reps bar, so make contact with her if you have any ideas for socials this year. She already has one arranged for this Friday (January 20) - a karaoke evening hosted by Dave and Debbie Fleming. Sounds like a lot of fun, so get on down and start crooning! These socials are great to meet old friends and make new ones.

Black Mamba

Kathy and her colleague, the one and only Allan Riddell, are behind Black Mamba - the huge comedy hit from South Africa that will have three performances on the Reps stage (Friday February 3 (8pm) and Saturday February 4 (6pm and 9pm). Bookings are now open at The Spotlight. You won't get bitten, but you'll enjoy the bite! Starring two of SA's top young stars - Ben Voss and John van de Ruit.

... that's all, folks!

So that's it for our January newsletter. Keep in touch with Reps so that you can get your best from your membership. See the shows, have fun in the bar and keep in communication with the Reps team. The executive Committee is there to serve you. Don't forget we are a theatre club and we need many more people on the stage, behind the stage, in front-of-house work - and, of course, in the seats at every show. Help Reps keep live theatre alive and well by being active and supportive in any way you can. We have a number of hardworking people who make it all happen and they look forward to you joining them this year. We will be doing some workshops on key topics like acting and directing and backstage work and front of house, so if you are not doing any of this, then why not think about it in 2006?

Keep well

Tim Garrard, Chairman
