NEWS RELEASE: JAN 19 2010: AFDIS AWARDS
Nominees for the 2009 Reps Afdis Awards have been announced, with strong competition in all the categories ahead of the awards ceremony on Saturday March 6.
Sponsored by African Distillers, the awards honour on-stage and backstage effort and achievement at Harare's Reps Theatre during the past year, with a focus on productions staged by The Repertory Players and not on hire or commercial productions.
A total of 11 productions were staged, including a mix of drama, comedy and musicals, as well as the annual pantomime. In addition, awards will also be presented for the annual Reps Afdis Schools Drama Festival, for which a number of senior schools in and around Harare were entered.
This year's awards event will take place during Reps' 50/80 Celebration, a commemorative period now under way, marking the 50th anniversary of
Reps Theatre on January 13 2010 and the 80th anniversary of The Repertory Players on February 17 2011.
