NEWS RELEASE: Sep 29 2011: THEATRE SCHOOL

The Repertory Players and Jump Productions have set up a Theatre School for people in Harare who are interested or active in theatrical activities, whether on stage or backstage.

The school was launched on September 22 and will run until late November, ending with a series of staged productions in which the skills of the participants will be put to the test. Training sessions are being held once a week at Reps Theatre.

Said Mr Hanssen: "This is a 10-week course open to all interested people, hosted by some of Harare's top theatrical coaches. The course is very hands-on and lots of fun … from 0 to 100 in 10 weeks."

Participants choose one course from the four on offer: Acting, Singing and Dancing, Visual Design and Technical Design. Coaches on the acting course include Kevin Hanssen, Chipo Chikara, Ashleigh-May Bawden, Jamie McLaren, Sue Bolt and Musa Saruro and the course sees the team breaking a script down into units, as well as doing vocal work, improvisation and warm-up techniques, developing an emotional journey for a character and preparing for performance.
