Two one-act plays will be the next feature presentation at Harare's Reps Theatre, each with a murder mystery theme and both written by British playwright Paul Reakes.
The two are combined into one evening's entertainment and will run for five performances at Theatre Upstairs from Wednesday October 31 to Sunday November 4. Together they are titled Paul Wreaks Havoc and individually they are Mantrap, a murder mystery, and Bang You're Dead, a murder mystery comedy.
The plays are being directed by Mel Hooley and Sue Wilkes and feature a cast of nine people, including some newcomers to the Reps stage. Among them are Ann Fischer, Tim Harrup, Denny Gaisford, Paul Robinson, Mark Keeling, Colleen Morgan, Gregory Mizon, Peter Broadway and Vicky Macmillan.
"These are superb little plays and will have broad appeal to audiences, especially in the intimate atmosphere of Theatre Upstairs," said Ms Wilkes.
Four of the performances will be 7pm shows - Wednesday October 31, Thursday November 1, Friday November 2 and Saturday November 3 - with a matinee at 2.30pm on the final day, Sunday November 4. Booking is now open at The Spotlight, which opens from Tuesday to Friday between 9am and 4pm and on Saturdays and Sundays from 9am to 12 noon.
Reps Theatre has enjoyed a busy year to date, with no fewer than nine productions from The Repertory Players and a further half dozen outside hire presentations. Now in rehearsal are Little Red Riding Hood, this year's pantomime, which will run on the main stage from December 6 to 22, and the return of the traditional New Year farce, which this year will be Kindly Keep It Covered (December 31 to January 12). The pantomime is being directed by Afdis Award-winning Graham Crutchley, with an all-star cast, while the farce will be directed by Mike Lanchester, who also directed the comedy Last Tango In Little Grimley in August.
Auditions are also being held soon for a new production planned for the new year: The Rat Pack, which will feature the music of Dean Martin, Frank Sinatra and Sammy Davis Junior. The open auditions are for any male or female singer and musician and will take place in the Adrian Stanley Rehearsal Room at 1pm on Sunday November 4.
Booking is now open at The Spotlight, which operates from 9am to 4pm between Tuesday and Friday and from 9am to 12 non on Saturdays and Sundays.
