NEWS RELEASE OCTOBER 11 2007 DEBDANCE ONE

Debbie Fleming will direct her first production at Reps Theatre in over a year when she hosts Stretch, Dance and Groan in mid-October.

The show will be a dance spectacular featuring a line-up of more than 50 dancers in a series of sequences that reflect a variety of themes and musical genres, and will run for only five performances, starting on Wednesday October 17 and ending on Saturday October 20.

"We have had so much fun in rehearsals that we are sure this is going to be a really exciting production that will entertain audiences of all ages," said Ms Fleming, who is one of Reps' most experienced and accomplished performers. The cast includes all of her regular dance class students, as well as a number of guest artistes, including National Ballet and national gymnastics personalities.

"The youngest is 12 and the most mature is about 60," said Ms Fleming.

Her last production was 2006's Sister Action, a musical comedy that was a great success and won accolades in the African Distillers/Reps Awards of Excellence presentations earlier this year. Previous successes have included Broadway Hits and Musical Bits - for which she won a Best Director award - and Boy Band Blockbusters.

Among the dance styles on stage will be modern, tap, jazz and many others. Off stage there will be an art exhibition in the theater foyer, while an interesting feature will be a warm-up class for the cast with the curtains up ahead of the start of the show - "a bit of a laugh for audiences as they see how we get ready for a dance show," said Ms Fleming. The title of the show is itself an amusing comment on how dancers get ready - and the effects of heavy work-outs.

Stretch Dance and Groan has a preview performance on Tuesday October 16, with a run that includes 7pm shows on Wednesday October 17, Thursday October 18, Friday October 19 and Saturday October 20. A matinee performance will also be staged at 2.30pm on Saturday October 20 to cater for people who prefer to go out during daylight hours.

Booking is now open at The Spotlight, which operates from 9am to 4pm between Tuesday and Friday and from 9am to 12 non on Saturdays and Sundays.
