Comedy and drama are contrasted and compared in this week's presentation of two one-act plays at Reps' Theatre Upstairs in Harare.
The plays are Postal Orders and Sins Of The Father, which are being previewed ahead of staging as entries from The Repertory Players in next month's 2010 National Invitational One-Act Festival, which will be hosted on the Reps Theatre Main Stage.
Directed by Michelle Mesley, Postal Orders and has been adapted from an old script written by Roland Pertwee and given a 1990s Zimbabwean setting. It stars Phillipa Johnston, Faith Ganyau, Collina Mvududu, Abigail Mrerwa and Ronald Pilime, and is an amusing look at service standards in a small-town post office.
Sins Of The Father was written by Leo Smith and is a play for mature audiences with a focus on adultery and mind games. It stars Mike Blackburn, Kathy Murphy and Kyla Render and has been directed by Tim Garrard.
"These are two very different plays that together provide a rewarding evening's entertainment and are presented this week in preview ahead of the one-act play festival in the first week of September, which we are hosting at Reps as part of our current 50/80 anniversary celebrations," said a spokesman for the theatre.
The plays run from Wednesday August 11 to Saturday August 14, with daily performances at 7pm and an additional matinee at 2.30pm on Saturday.
