NEWS RELEASE JUNE 16 2008 MALINTENT ONE

Thrillers with a twist feature this week at Harare's Reps Theatre, where Melanie Hooley and Sue Wilkes are directing two one-act plays in Theatre Upstairs.

The plays are Murder Play by Brian Burton and The Demon by Martin Downing, featuring two strong casts in a short run of only six performances running from Tuesday June 17 to Saturday June 21.

In Murder Play, a married couple wakes up the morning after a dinner party at which the husband has been sacked by his friend and boss, David - the host of the dinner party - to find that the boss is missing and questions are being asked. In The Demon, six friends meet during a thunderstorm to hear a terrifying announcement: one of them is a serial killer possessed by the devil. Who is the demon and does it really exist?

"These are thrilling plays that will appeal to a wide cross-section of the public," said Melanie Hooley.

"We have only a short run so we are encouraging people to book early so they avoid being turned away. There was a very positive response to a similar set of two one-act plays we directed late last year, so we look forward to similar success with this run."

Performers in the two plays include Ann Fischer, Greg Mizon, Colleen Morgan, Marc Thomas, Clare Hingeston, Tim Harrap and Veerle Lens, most of whom have appeared on the Reps stages in the past.

Booking is now open at The Spotlight (open Tuesday to Friday from 9am to 4pm and Saturday and Sunday from 9am to 12 noon). Performances are at 7pm each evening, with ad additional matinee at 3pm on Saturday June 21.
