Reps Theatre's first musical production for 2008, Good Vibrations, opens on Thursday (February 7) for a short run, bringing to audiences a love story weaved around the popular 60s and 70s music of the Beach Boys.
Written by two members of boy band 5Star, the show features 5Star and a cast of talented young singers and dancers. The pair, Richard Sticklen and Alex Fairlie, created a story based on the lives of four contemporary brothers and it has a fast, lively pace interspersed with nearly two dozen Beach Boys songs.
Produced by Stan Higgins and directed by Teri Grimmel, stars include 5Star members Richard Sticklen, Alex Fairlie, Josh Ansley, Nigel Hopkins and Aaron Ziwande - all of them nominees for 2007 Reps Afdis Awards - as well as actresses Erin Cooper - a three-time nominee for the Reps Afdis Awards for last year - Katya Petrova, Jamie Bell, Christina Jenkins and Sie'ntania McNeil, in addition to dancers Clare Garrard, David Richards and Chris Garrard.
Choreography has been devised by Michelle Mesley - who made a return to the world of dance and theatre last year with Those Were The Days - and musical direction has been undertaken by Josh Ansley, who leads 5Star and who also has his own rock group, Negative Equity.
Good Vibrations, which has 10 performances and closes on February 16, follows Reps' most recent productions, Little Red Riding Hood and Kindly Keep It Covered, both of which were critically well received.
Next up after Good Vibrations will be Do U Wanna Country Rock, which will feature country rock music, and which will run in early March. The annual Reps Afdis Awards ceremony will take place in the theatre on Saturday March 1.
