Harare's Reps Theatre brings back one of its most popular end-of-year traditions when it runs a farce from December 31, this time presenting an hilarious comedy by David Freeman, Kindly Keep It Covered.
Farce is one of the most difficult theatre forms to produce, but it is also one of the most rewarding as it provides maximum enjoyment and entertainment value for more mature audiences. Under long-time director of productions Adrian Stanley, Reps produced a farce each year, opening it on New Year's Eve and running it into mid-January.
Although this fell in away in recent years, it has been decided to revive the popular annual farce and this year's production looks set to entertain and pack in the houses. Directed by Teri Grimmel - whose last production was the successful Fiddler On The Roof in June - it stars a small but highly talented cast, including debut performances from Ryan Lawrence and Karen Howard-Beard and the return to the stage of ever-popular Sheila Pickering, a stalwart of theatre in Harare and Mutare of 40 years' standing.
Other cast members include Tim Harrap and Anne Fischer (both seen recently in Theatre Upstairs' Paul Wreaks Havoc one-act play duo), as well as Shingirai Nyakabau and Fran Douie.
"The script is delightful and we know audiences will love the return of the annual farce, especially one so witty and entertaining," said Teri Grimmel.
"Previous farces have been both critical and box office successes and we hope the same will apply to this production, which will open on New Year's Eve and run until Saturday January 12, with a total of 10 performances."
She said rehearsals were going well and the cast looked forward to good houses into the new year. Booking is now open at The Spotlight with special advance booking discount prices available to 'early birds.'
